Working with community workers in Uganda together we have identified the need for a school to be built in a remote area on Mount Elgon – Kasabasi Village in the Masira sub county. The villagers have little access to local towns and therefore no access to education. Without education Ugandans have limited options in their adult life. Land has been secured in order that Rejuvenate plan, build and supply resources and a teacher to the school.
Kasabasi is situated on the slopes of Mt Elgon, Eastern Uganda. We have built good relationships with the locals through our link with our community worker whose home village it is. A school is desperately needed in the village and we have now secured the land. When we have enough donors we aim to start the development of a new school.
Rejuvenate Worldwide has been working in partnership with Salem Brotherhood, Uganda for over ten years. Rejuvenate funded the construction of the Operating Theatre now in full swing in Salem, Uganda, as well as on going support for children and youth programmes.
Salem International in UgandaSalem Brotherhood in Uganda was founded in 1981, it is a non- denominational Christian organisation. Since the founding of Salem Brotherhood Uganda Ltd by Gottfried Mueller in 1981 in the eastern District of Mbale, many hundreds of orphaned, abused and vulnerable children have benefited from care and a safe refuge in the Salem village. The majority of these have been resettled back to their villages of origin. Some, including the disabled, continue to need loving care and support. Children and babies continue to be received into the care of Salem.Today, up to 40 children and 10 babies are cared for within the Children and Babies Home at any one time. They are cared for in family sized groups in a village like setting, and the homes are run by indigenous people according to local custom. Our children are given loving and support, but our sanitation and water drainage facilities urgently need upgrading to improve upon the living conditions in the village.Children with disabilitiesSalem Uganda receives children with disabilities into the care of the Children and Babies Home. It has been difficult to find suitable schools for our children, but we have been persistent and schools have been found. In our local community, there are children who are denied their right to education, simply on account of their disability! Often they are confined to home and do the domestic work for the family. Salem Uganda is surrounded by high levels of poverty, poor housing and sanitation. Every month malnourished children arrive for medical help at our Nutrition Centre.Working with SalemRejuvenate Worldwide has been working with Salem Brotherhood since 1997, providing assistance for the construction of buildings, sponsorship of children, medical provision and educational material.
