Mt Elgon Landslide Disaster, Uganda
(We have now stopped collecting for this cause – Thank you to all who have donated towards this cause. We will be working with our Ugandan partners to ensure the funds are spent helping those directly affected by the land slides)
On Tuesday March 2nd 2010 Mt Elgon region in Uganda suffered a severe landslide killing over 85 people and leaving hundreds without homes, food and clean water. Children have been left without parents and siblings.
‘Damascus Wanyenya, 27 (Kubehwo village):
We heard unusual sound and were told that some rocks had fallen on some people. By the time we came to the village, we could not hear any cries for help; everything was buried. We tried to dig up survivors in vain.’
